Day 3:

Preface: Oh most Divine Lord, we humbly prostrate ourselves before Thy Infinite Majesty, and we adore Thee and dedicate to Thy glory the devout prayers which we now present to Thee, as an act of devotion to your servant, St Gemma Galgani, whose intercession we are now imploring.

O most loving virgin St. Gemma, with a fervent love for Jesus you suffered immensely for the conversion of sinners as a victim for sin, and you loved others intensely out of love for God. Do not forget us then, who remain here on earth, and look down with kindness on those of us who implore thee in the confident hope of receiving this favor through thy loving intercession (mention request)

Our Father, Hail Mary, Glory be.

Pray for us, Saint Gemma, that we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ.

Let us pray. O God, Who fashioned thy servant Saint Gemma into a likeness of Thy Crucified Son, grant us through her intercession the favor that we humbly request, and through the Passion, Death and Resurrection of Thy Son, may we be united with You for all eternity. We ask this through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen

How to Love like a Saint

Principal 1:  You can’t control or change other people, you can only control yourself and what you do.

Principal 2:  People give and receive love differently.  There is a book titled “the 5 love languages” that expresses the various ways in which love is given and received.  Therefore according to principal 1 then you should look at the intent of one trying to give you love and accept it not according to how you would like to receive the love, but receive it according to the fact that it is love whether given how you like or not.  We cannot force someone to love us exactly how we would like.  And conversely, you should do all you can to give love the way the other wishes to receive it best.  These two principals therefore are both used together.

Principal 3: God is personal (3 persons, 1 God). Consequently, God too gives and receives love according to Principal 2.  And then applying Principal 1 and 2 to ourselves in relation to God, we should try to understand how God has given us Love as well as how He would like to receive Love from us.

“Learn… how Jesus wishes to be loved.” – St. Gemma Galgani:

Preface: Oh most Divine Lord, we humbly prostrate ourselves before Thy Infinite Majesty, and we adore Thee and dedicate to Thy glory the devout prayers which we now present to Thee, as an act of devotion to your servant, St Gemma Galgani, whose intercession we are now imploring.

O worthy Spouse of the Lamb of God and faithful virgin St Gemma, you preserved the innocence and splendor of virginity, giving to the world a bright example of purity and the most exalted virtues. Look down with pity from thy high place in heaven upon us who confide in thee, as we implore thee for the favor we so ardently desire (mention request).

Our Father, Hail Mary, Glory be.

Pray for us, Saint Gemma, that we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ.

Let us pray. Day 1:

http://www.stgemmagalgani.com/2008/11/novena-to-st-gemma-galgani.html

Preface: Oh most Divine Lord, we humbly prostrate ourselves before Thy Infinite Majesty, and we adore Thee and dedicate to Thy glory the devout prayers which we now present to Thee, as an act of devotion to your servant, St Gemma Galgani, whose intercession we are now imploring.

Most compassionate virgin, St. Gemma, during thy short life on earth, you gave a most beautiful example of angelic innocence and seraphic love and was found worthy to bear in thy flesh the marks of our Lord’s Passion. Have pity on us who are so much in need of God’s Mercy, and obtain for us through thy merits and intercession, the special favor which we now fervently implore (mention request).

Amen

Freely I Give

All Saints Museum presents the fourth song salvaged from an old cassette tape, available on our YouTube Channel.  It is another wonderful song that talks about God’s great love for us.  It is an excellent song for Lent as we contemplate God’s gift of His only Son, who came to share in our humanity, to become the Paschal Lamb.    This song is a powerful way to continue in the journey of Lent.  It is played to a set of our Holy Cards, several of which are in our Holy Card Project.

We hope you enjoy.

Marriage and Faith

Faith is “the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things that are unseen.” (Heb 11:1).

This is not the dictionary definition of faith, but an inspired one from the Holy Spirit, who inspires the Scriptures.  This Faith is a gift from God himself – the first of the three Theological Virtues (Faith, Hope and Love) – given to us through grace.

Our Lord has revealed to His Church that the ordinary means of obtaining grace is through the Sacraments!

The Catechism of the Catholic Church states: “The purpose of the sacraments is to sanctify men, to build up the Body of Christ and, finally, to give worship to God. Because they are signs they also instruct. They not only presuppose faith, but by words and objects they also nourish, strengthen, and express it. That is why they are called ‘sacraments of faith.’

We are given the initial bud of grace, Divine Life, when we are baptized.  And this is when our parents make the ultimate act of Faith for us.

As we grow older, we have the Sacraments of Confession and Holy Communion to keep this Divine Life within us growing – and it is in this Divine Life that we continue to have Faith.  And finally, the Sacrament of Marriage then strengthens this further.  Marriage itself is the sign of God’s relationship with His Church, as St. Paul counsels the Ephesians when he says, “Husbands love your wives, even as Christ loved the Church (Eph. 5:25).”  The family, stemming from Marriage, is a reflection of the Trinity, creating life through love.  The family is evidence of the Triune God, who “is not seen” – except, of course, through Jesus, who is THE Sacrament Himself: “When you see me, you see the Father” (Jn. 14:9).

Marriage and the family then are very sacred entities, because as we live Sacramental lives, we may indeed give others a glimpse of what Faith is. We give others “evidence” of something unseen.  We become the “substance of things hoped for” for others.

It is for this reason that we must always fight to defend Marriage, to defend the family.  And the best way to do this is by imitating the Saints.

May we, through the veneration of the Saints of the past, inspire Saints of the future.

God bless.

Saint Gemma for Lent

As we are well into Lent, I would like to introduce you to Saint Gemma Galgani. She had a particular devotion to Lent and to the Passion of our Lord Jesus. She was born on March 12, 1878 in Camigliano, Italy. She died on Holy Saturday, April 11th (Celebrated as her Feast day). She received the stigmata, which are the wounds of Christ, on June 8th, 1899. St. Gemma had a great devotion to our Lord in the Eucharist. She once said, “…on approaching the Blessed Sacrament, I felt myself burning and I had to withdraw. I am astounded that so many who receive Jesus are not reduced to ashes.” This burning wasn’t metaphorical, or some abstract desire. For Saint Gemma the burning was real, so much so that it caused external wounds over the region of the heart, as if it had been burnt with a red-hot iron plate. Once an Angel appeared to St. Gemma.  He had two beautiful crowns; one of thorns and one of lilies. He asked her which one she wished. And St. Gemma replied, “That of Jesus.” What a beautiful reflection for Lent. May we have the courage to choose the crown of thorns when offered to us. Let us choose, as lovers of Christ, to unite ourselves to Him. Amen!

Our Lady of Lourdes – Feast Day

Happy Feast Day to Our Lady of Lourdes!  This is the latest addition to our on-Line Exhibit Holy Card Project.  Our Lady appeared to a young girl named Bernadette Soubirous in the year 1858, and the rest as they say is history!  As mentioned in previous posts, this is an ongoing display of our Holy Card Collection.  Holy Cards will continue to be added as our collections align with Feast Days of the Saints in our collection.  God bless.
